Malcolm X, an American civil rights activist, Muslim minister, orator, and human rights advocate, is considered one of the most prominent figures in African-American history.

Born in Omaha, Nebraska on September 8, 1931, Malcolm X witnessed the racial tensions in the country from a young age. His father, Earl Little, taught him the importance of pride and self-sufficiency within the black community.

However, tragedy struck when Earl Little was killed by a tram, which some members of the black community believed was the work of racist agents. Malcolm X's mother, Louise Little, struggled to remarry and eventually suffered a mental breakdown, leaving Malcolm to be placed in foster care.
